In the capital city of Port-Au-Prince, people are living with violent protests and demonstrations. These riots are due to limited access to basics such as water, medicine and the exponential rising costs of fuel and food (a large box of cereal is costing up to $22!). Growing social and political tensions have been increasing over the past number of months and a real humanitarian crisis is developing now in a country that is just an hour’s flight from Miami.

Because of this, roads are now blocked, making it nearly impossible for people to leave their homes for work, they can’t reach affordable food or travel to a hospital when there is an urgent need to do so. Schools are all closed, which means hundreds and thousands of students are forced to stay home – barring them from an education. Our incredible, passionate, on the ground Haitian partners at the St Luke Foundation, led by founder Fr. Rick Frechette, a Catholic priest and physician, are out on the streets seeking out the wounded and bringing them to their hospital, delivering water by the truckloads to the poor around the city, giving prayers to those who need it and doing their best to be present and helpful to the people of Haiti, all the while risking their own lives to do so.

Haiti needs our help. We are accepting donations on behalf of the St Luke Foundation and every dollar you donate will go directly to help with basic humanitarian supplies.

There is so much going on in this world, but we also know that as humans who care about one another, we cannot sit back as our brothers and sisters suffer.
