Artists for Peace and Justice

June 21, 2011 - School's out for summer!

Students prepare for their final examsToday marks the final day of the first full term at the Academy for Peace and Justice.  School’s out for summer!  For the past week, the students have been working hard to complete their final exams.  It’s amazing to know that these Haitian students are on the same academic schedule as many children their age around the world-and final exams can be stressful anywhere you take them-so we wish our friends the best of luck!

A little over one year ago, the 10 empty acres of land were occupied by a mere vision.  Now, the Academy for Peace and Justice stands as a manifestation of that vision.  Our country director, Bryn Mooser, feels sentimental as he witnesses firsthand the conclusion of this term.  How incredibly surreal it is to see this tremendous progress for APJ as 400 students have completed their first year of free secondary education.

Your continued support has made all of this possible.  The bustling campus exudes an energy that gives us hope for the future accomplishments that will surely come.  We look forward to the completion of the 8th grade classroom blocks, and each day brings us closer to fulfilling our goal of providing approximately 3,000 students with the gift of education.
